New release Study Guide 2.75

The release notes provide information on the features and improvements in the specified version. The release dates that are related to the version of the release are published in the Study guide release schedule.

Improvements

The issues in release mentioned under the section improvements are considered as new functionality, user experience improvements or bug fixes. Issues marked as hotfix are developed in this sprint but applied to the previous release or directly to production, depending on impact.

It should be possible to remove a filter value - SG-739

When removing a filter value, an error was thrown. The error was consistent and prevented the admin to save the configuration, and thus remove the filter from the configuration. This has been fixed, and filters can be cleared and saved again.

Due to Assistant feature released in the previous sprint, the 'filters' are not direct visible in the first tab. The enabling of the 'submit' validated the filters for correctness. A 'red' marker with the error was shown underneath the filter, but since this could be a non-selected page, the reason of a non-clickable submit buton was not clear. A second fix is made to show the 'reason' why the submit is not selectable. In the filter example the button will show an information message on 'hover' that the filter is incorrect and thus the submit is not accessible.

AI student coach improvements - SG-788

Some improvements have been made to the AI student coach:

  • The AI engine (Google Gemini) used is using the region specific engine
  • The AI engine integration is made more robust. The connection of the AI engine to the data, required to provide answers, could get disconnected. This has been made more robust.
  • Migrated to use the latest AI engine
  • Extended the AI prompting, with highly increased resultsThe engine respects the selected academic year, the different objects in the response will have proper links to direct navigate to the detail pages, the AI will not standard prompt for more information in case the information provided is sufficient, deleted information is no longer used as 'input' by the AI.

The study guide should not show the same year twice - SG-741

It could happen an imported year appeared twice in the study guide, where only on has data and the other would not synchronise. It required some investigation to find the cause, but we succeeded to find and fix it. In case the 'import' was defined as '2026 ' (with a leading or trailing space), this causes to create and import the year with a space. The year was then imported and the space was removed by the import routine, creating the year without a space. The change made is that the year creation routine uses the same 'cleaning algorithm' as Curriculum, preventing to create a code without a space.

Part of the fix is the automatic cleaning of the 'undesired' year with the space, only keeping the year with the code matching the curriculum academic year.

The system should support a product filter per tab - SG-793

The tab definition consists of the page to be shown and the relevant filter. In this release the usage of the filter is extended to manage the 'product filter' for a specific page/tab. The 'product filter' is used to filter the result on faculty or organisation. The extension is the ability to define the product filter values, for instance define a filter for only 3 of the 8 faculties. This change will limit the search results to meet the selected faculties and can be used to define different tabs that provide search and detailpages focussing on different faculties or organisations.

Below an example configuration is shown, where the faculties are filtered to only show 3 out of the 8 available faculties.

The configuration starts by adding a filter to the Filter configuration page.

After selecting Add filter, of selecting an existing filter, the filter configuration is shown.

In this case the filter option is used define the supported faculties (using the code or externalId of the faculties). The filter can be selected to be applied in the Tab configuration.

When opening the Tab and opening the Faculty filter, the available options are shown. Based on the configuration not all faculties are available for filtering, but only the 3 defined options in the filter can be selected.

Filters should be usable as overarching select option - SG-792

A requirement received the option to define a kind of 'virtual' sections in the study guide. In this case a virtual section only provides a slice of the study guide related to tabs, pages and data. Multiple slices can be defined, to allow the student toggling between the different virtual sections. This could allow to separate the information based on faculty.

The image below shows an example of two virtual sections, filtering on faculty. The selected 'virtual section' (tab group) is the faculty Abstract Sciences. The information shown in the different underlying tabs will always apply the defined filter, and in this case only provide data that is defined in the context of the faculty Abstract Sciences.

Configuration and behaviour:

An administrator can define the virtual sections called tab groups in the study guide. Using the menu Administration → Tab groups the tab groups can be defined providing a name, a label and a sequence.

In case two or more tab groups are defined, the switch to navigate the tab groups (virtual sections) is shown next to the customer logo. On mobile the switch option is available via the top of the menu.

The user can now toggle between the virtual sections by selecting the relevant tab group.

Security

An integral part of our development and build process is automatic scanning for known security vulnerabilities. The vulnerabilities will be fixed based on their impact, which means that in some cases an immediate hot-fix will be applied, and in other cases the vulnerability will be fixed in the current or next Sprint (release). The security section provides an overview of the vulnerabilities mitigated. ‍

For more information on reported vulnerabilities, see the central database of vulnerabilities.

Security improvements - SG-756

AI can be a blessing. We read information about AI bots hacking their way into systems. This has bad things, but we decided to use this to our advantage and perform a indepth security audit using the power of AI. If they can hack the FBI, why not check if they can hack our software. We could have used a brute-force attack, but we decided to give the AI access to the code base, to provide as much information as possible enabling finding any security issues. It was also because we want to exploit the power and check if the AI would find issues that were not found by our regular security audits.

And it must be said, the AI found some issues. Luckily all identified as minor, but still a good result to even improve our security further. Since the issues were deep-down technically and marked as minor, they will not be individually listed. But it is still worthwhile sharing we fixed the 'minor' marked security vulnerabilities.
