Advanced search in Viewer
In Viewer, Separator + and Filter && are advanced search operators used in My criteria to control how selected objects are combined.

Simple rule of thumb
- No separator
- Combine criteria normally
- Often narrows results when using different object types
- + Separator
- “OR / start a new group”
- Expands results
- && Filter
- “AND filter everything above”
- Narrows results
A useful way to think about it:
Course A + Course B && Lecture
means roughly:
(Course A OR Course B) AND Lecture
So + broadens, while && narrows.
Separator '+' → start a new search / add more results
Use + when you want to expand the result set.
It acts like a separator between search groups: Viewer searches for the criteria above the +, then “starts over” and searches for the next criteria too. The results are added together.
Example:
Course A
+
Course B
This shows reservations for Course A OR Course B.
Another example with different object types:
Baldr
Loki+
Boating House
This shows reservations for Baldr and Loki, plus reservations for Boating House — so the output becomes broader.
Filter '&&' → filter everything above by what comes after
Use && when you want to narrow the result set.
It applies the criteria after && as a filter to all the search criteria above it.
Example:
Course A
+
Course B
+
Course C
&&
Lecture
This means:
Find reservations for Course A
plus reservations for Course B
plus reservations for Course C
but only show the ones that are also Lecture
So instead of writing:
Course A
Lecture
+
Course B
Lecture
+
Course C
Lecture
…you can write the shorter version with &&.
Requirement for filter to work
For the filter to work correctly, the information being filtered on needs to be displayed as part of the reservation. In this case, Activity Type (Lecture is an object of Activity type) needs to be added under Content→Columns in schedule so that each reservation displays its activity type.
